We pride ourselves on keeping our broodmares in top condition. Hidden Ponds broodmares are handled daily. They are not simply turned out to pasture to have no human interaction. All of our mares are broke to ride, and are ridden during the off season after their foals are weaned, or on years when they do not have a foal at their side. Mares that are amenable to strangers handling their foals in public places are taken to shows starting when the foals are two months old. We show both the mare and the foal. We believe that this benefits both mom and baby, giving baby exposure very young and showing baby that mom is not worried, so they should not be either. This puts a lasting impression on a foal that is later expected to develop into a performance horse, so new situations are handled easily.

Lone Cypress Farms Blueberry

2008 Black Mare

(Rainbows Blue Genes x Rainbows Strawberry Delight)

DNA: Ee aa

Country of Origin: United States

Blueberry is a sweet and gentle mare, and our favorite broodmare. Blueberry and her foals have attended many shows together, and she is wonderful at shows allowing strangers to pet and handle her offspring. Blueberry is green broke to ride.

Blueberry is out of Rainbows Strawberry Delight, who was imported from SD farms as a two year old by Black Forest Shire and Gypsy Horses. Strawberry is by SD Chief. She is by Rainbows Blue Genes, who was also imported from SD Farms by Black Forest Shire and Gypsy Horses.

Blueberry has produced four foals for us: a black tobiano filly by Ankou in 2016 named HP Valkyrie (sold), a smokey black filly by our stallion, St Brendan's Cream in 2017 named HP Aphrodite (sold), a palomino filly by St. Brendan's Cream in 2018 named HP Rarity (retained), and a chestnut colt in 2020 named HP Copilot (sold). She has been bred to SD Gold Top for a 2021 foal.

Lil Shirefighter

2009 Black Tobiano Sabino Mare

Clononeen Playboy x Willerby Myst

DNA: Ee aa Tt nSB1

Country of Origin: United States

Lily, registered as Lil Shirefighter, was one of two foals born in 2009 by the famous (and now dispersed) Harlequin Farms. At that time she was known as Harlequin Farms Angelica, because she was so small when she was born that she looked like a little angel. As a yearling, she got into a pen with a shire stallion, who injured her neck, and to this day she has the scar. It does not bother her, however, and she lives happily with our broodmare herd.

Lily is out of Willerby Myst and by Clononeen Playboy. Playboy is no longer in the United States, having been exported back to the United Kingdom! Playboy scored 2 '10' scores from CHAP UK judges and went first premium as a two year old!

Lily is a rather petite girl at 13 hands. She foaled a beautiful filly on May 14, 2018 for us by GFR Silver Spirit, our national champion gypsy halter stallion. She can be seen on the 2018 foals page! She had a stunning red sabino filly by St. Brendan's Cream in June of 2019. She was bred back to GFR Silver Spirit for a 2021 foal.

LS April Fools Day Jade

2011 Black Mare

Comanche x LS Rose Royce

DNA: EE aa

Country of Origin: United States

Jade is a sweet and social younger mare. With her beautiful head and heavy build, she is a joy to watch gallop in the pasture. Jade is a rather lively mare and loves to play. She is green broke to ride and has a gorgeous, animated extended trot!

Jade is royally bred, being sired by the Champion halter horse Comanche and out of a Sterling Silvia daughter. Sterling Silvia is a Grand Champion halter mare.

Jade gave us a gorgeous silver dapple Tobiano filly by our National Champion Halter stallion, GFR Silver Spirit on June 1, 2018, who we are retaining as a future show mare. Jade had a gorgeous filly in September of 2019 by GFR Silver Spirit (HP Vanity - for sale). She is bred back to GFR Silver Spirit for a 2021 foal.

Clononeen Star

1998 Piebald Mare

Clononeen Dunbrody x Shambo Daughter

DNA: EE aa Tt

Country of Origin: Ireland

Well, I told myself that I wouldn't buy any more mares until I sold one. I gave myself one *tiny* exception: if I ever saw Star for sale (the dam of my late mare Minnie and granddam of my mare Pearl) I could buy her. I had no idea where she was, if she was still alive or even if anyone would be interested in selling her...then a friend told me that she was going to be listed for sale soon. So here she is!

So much for a TINY exception...Star is a whole 16.2 hands tall! She is the tallest gypsy on our farm. It took a lot of unravelling, but we discovered Star's history (which is documented on our Hidden Ponds Facebook page). She is DNA verified as a daughter of Clononeen Dunbrody (who is thought to be older than the age he was originally sold as) and a granddaughter of Shambo.

Star will retire at Hidden Ponds.

Serenity

1998 Black Tobiano Mare

Lukey Delany x Connor's Molly Malone

DNA: Ee aa Tt

Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Sera is our well-known imported mare who was imported by Black Forest Shire and Gypsy Horses for Harlequin Farms. Sera spent many years as a breed representative on the West Coast, and is the dam is the dam of The Prophet, as well as several other notable foals.

Sera is broke to ride and has attended several shows with us. She is gentle and docile enough for beginner riders, although she is a forward mover and can certainly stride out when asked!

Sera had a palomino colt by St Brendan's Cream in 2017, who is currently available for sale. She gave us a bay Tobiano colt by GFR Silver Spirit in June of 2018. She is now retired from breeding.

Lake Ridge Contessa

2009 Bay Mare

Michael Vine's Oak Leaf x DGH Lake Ridge Obsession

DNA: EE Aa

Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Tessa is one of our newest broodmares and show horses, having just joined our herd in December 2018. She is broke to ride. She is by the famous stallion Oak Leaf, who is now in Luxembourg.

Tessa gave us a stunning silver dapple tobiano colt in 2020 named HP Hold My Beer by GFR Silver Spirit (sold). She is bred to SD Gold Top for a 2021 foal.

Lady Aeditha

2016 Smokey Black Spotted  Mare

CS Hermits Silver Shadow x Lady Karietha

DNA: Ee aa nCR nLP

Country of Origin: United States

Lady Aeditha started her show career with us in 2016, shortly after arriving home from California. She has extensive handling and spent time at the Horsemanship School in Amery, Wisconsin. Aeditha has been to a couple dozen shows between 2016-2019, and is sweet and easy to handle. She is usually given to novice youth to show, because she is so submissive and non-challenging. Aeditha represented the Gypsy Sport Horse at the Isle of Breeds during the 2017, 2018, and 2019 MN State Fair, with over 100,000 people in attendance every day.  She did amazingly well and was very popular! She has also been to the Minnesota Horse Expo in 2018 and 2019. She has ponied on trails and along with the cart and done some ground driving.

SD Faith

2018 Palomino Mare

SD Golden Boy x SD The Red Mare

DNA: ee aa nCR

Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Faith is a super sweet smaller filly. I expect her to mature to around 13 hands. She is a stout girl from SD breeding.

North Fork Aslan's Amber Dancer

2015 Red Mare

North Fork Aslan x Clononeen Isabel

DNA: not tested; red ee

Country of Origin: Canada

We first saw Amber's sire, a Shambo son, when we attended the 2016 Alberta Gypsy Show in Olds. Kari instantly fell in love with his beauty and soft demeanor, and admired the strong bond he had with his owner. Upon touring farms in the area, Kari saw his daughter, Amber, then owned by Black Orchid Gypsy and Drum horses. She was too small for their program, and was for sale. Being that she looked just like her sire (except red, not palomino), Kari knew she just had to join her show string and eventual broodmare herd.

Amber has been lightly shown in halter and does well in the obstacle course. In June of 2018, she won Champion Junior Mare at the JJ Horse Celebration Gypsy and Miniature Horse Show in Cannon Falls, MN. She came in 6th in Vanner Advantage for 2018.

Amber gave us a gorgeous chestnut colt by SD Gold Top in 2020, who is now sold.

Silver Star Crescent Moon

2016 Silver Black Blagdon Gypsy Mare

Coates Silver Thunder x Rosie's Kahlua

DNA: Ee aa nZ

Country of Origin: Canada

Luna is a super sweet and quiet mare. She loves attention and follows me everywhere. Kari purchased Luna when she was only a week old, and first showed her at 3 1/2 months in Alberta, Canada, at the annual GVHS show. Luna attended the Horsemanship School in spring of 2017 in Amery, Wisconsin. She has done a handful of shows, showing in Halter classes and in hand. She has points with Halter and Performance with GVHS. Luna was awarded 7th place in the 2017 GVHS Vanner Advantage program.

Luna is rather unique for a silver black, being so light in summer that she looks like a dark palomino, and in winter she looks like a dapple grey.

Luna is bred to SD Gold Top for a 2021 foal.

Shimmery

2016 Red Sabino Gypsy Mare

Coates Silver Thunder x Pearlie Girlie

DNA: ee aa nZ nPRL nSB1

Country of Origin: United States

Shimmery is our stunning red sabino mare. She is unique in that she also carries for Pearl and Silver; the only silver pearl sabino in the world that we know of. She has a thick, silky double mane and lovely long, thick tail.

Shimmery began her show career just days after arriving at Hidden Ponds in July of 2017. She took Reserve Grand Champion Halter Mare at the 2017 Kanabec County Fair her first time showing!

Shimmery came in 3rd for Vanner Advantage in 2018.

Shimmery gave us a gorgeous dark dappled palomino colt by SD Gold Top in 2020 (sold).

Minnie's Silver Pearl

2016 Silver Buckskin Gypsy Mare

Sir Royal Fortune of Kastle Rock x Anything but Minnie

DNA: EE Aa Zz nCR

Country of Origin: Canada

Pearl is one of our kindest and most social mares. Her first event was the Minnesota State Fair, which is the largest state fair in the country with over 120,000 people attending daily. She handled it better than the mare we brought who had been going for the last three years!

Pearl gave us a silver bay LP spotted colt by SD Gold Top in 2020 (for sale).

WHR Prime Patchwork

She has started with ground driving and will continue her driving training this summer.

Frozen gave birth to a beautiful and flashy black blagdon filly by St Brendan's Cream in April 2019 (sold), and a stunning black LP filly by SD Gold Top in 2020 (sold). She has been bred to Deuce is Wild for a 2021 foal.

Gypsy Elite Tara

2000 Black Tobiano Gypsy Mare

Lineage Unknown

DNA: Ee aa TT

Country of Origin: Germany

Tara is an elite broodmare and show horse. Imported from Germany at the age of six, she as already trained in Dressage and continued her training for many years in the United States. She also attended Breyerfest as a demo horse and has been extensively shown. Tara is a top quality broodmare and one of the most heavily feathered mares we have seen.

Tara was shown in halter and youth classes at the 2018 JJ Horse Celebration Gypsy and Miniature Horse Show in Cannon Falls, where she went Champion Senior Mare, Grand Champion Mare, and Reserve Supreme Champion! All that at 18 years old! She also did very well in the Youth classes, winning several under saddle and in-hand classes.

Tara gave us a gorgeous palomino tobiano colt in 2019, who is sold. She is bred to St Brendan's Cream for a 2021 foal.

Wild Rose Gwenhwyfar

2017 Palomino Blagdon Mare

Cabaret Rose

2011 Red Tobiano Gypsy Mare

The Godfather x Blarney Stone's Coco

DNA: ee aa Tt nW20

Country of Origin: United States

Rosie is Kari's primary show horse. Rosie has been extensively shown both English and Western and attends most events with Hidden Ponds. In addition to showing, Rosie is broke to drive, and has been used for foxhunting, hunter paces, hunter trials, team penning, and has even loped the patterns at game shows.

Kari bought Rosie when she was a green broke three year old, and has put extensive time on her in order to ensure she is a well-rounded horse. She came fourth in the GVHS Vanner Advantage program in 2016, 11th in the Vanner Advantage program in 2017, and 11th in Amateur Overall and Amateur Performance in the GVHS High Point Year End awards. She came in 8th in Vanner Advantage for 2018. She was also the highest ranked American Amateur Performance mare in 2017! She has shown at Feathered Horse Classic, Midwest Gypsy Horse Association, and JJ Show Management gypsy shows and placed in Halter, Showmanship, Trail, English, and Western (way too many placings to mention here). She was included in the Discover The Horse's video featuring Gypsy Vanners. Rosie has been evaluated as a four-star mare, and will be working toward her Versatility Medallion.

Rosie was bred to St Brendan's Cream for 2019 and in April had a gorgeous solid red colt foal (sold).

Queen of the Blagdon's Senora

2004 Sooty Red Blagdon Gypsy Mare

Andrew Mouldon's Blue Blagdon Stallion x John Sykes Blagdon Mare

DNA: ee aa W20/W20

Country of Origin: Wales (United Kingdom)

Senora is our safest, most novice friendly horse at the farm. She can be handled and shown by absolutely anyone, and is shown by novice youth and amateurs. She was originally purchased to be a riding horse for Kari's mother, who has rheumatoid arthritis, when she visits, and she is perfect for that. She is also trained to ride and drive, and shows in both. She has been used as a demonstration and expo horse, and attends most of our events. Senora is quite the world traveler, having been imported to Canada before coming to the United States. Senora was awarded 5th place for Youth Vanner Advantage in 2017, and 7th place in the Open Vanner Advantage for 2019. In 2019, she also went GHRA Reserve Champion driving mare. Senora was featured as the riding and driving horse in the Discover The Horse video on Gypsy Vanners. Senora is a four star rated mare through GVHS.

Though she has had five foals previously, Senora had her first foal for us in 2018. Since she is one of our favorite show horses, we don't have plans at this time to breed her back. She loves the foals, though, and stays in our broodmare pasture during the summer months to help babysit.

Giselle of Finnegan's Fields

2015 Bay Grey Sabino Gypsy Mare

Roman of HSF x Ciao Bella

DNA: Ee Aa Gg nSB1

Country of Origin: United States

Giselle is a filly that we admired for a few years before she made her way to our home! Kari has a screenshot of her foal picture on her phone that she saved when she first fell in love! Giselle is a kind and smart mare, and we hope to get her evaluated this year at the Minnesota GVHS evaluations. She is not even a full three years old in these photos...can you believe it? This mare is going to be one TANK of a fancy girl!

Giselle had a stunning silver bay tobiano sabino filly in June of 2019 by our National Champion halter stallion, GFR Silver Spirit (sold). She is bred back to GFR Silver Spirit for a 2021 foal.

Lags Mare

2010 Bay Blagdon Irish Cob Mare

Foundation Bred

DNA: Ee Aa nW20

Country of Origin: Ireland

Lags Mare was imported from the herd of Andy McEvoy in Ireland in November of 2018. Andy owned her since she was a yearling, and told me that she was out of a bay mare and by a heavy grey stallion who he would guess is now deceased. Her breeder was named Lags, hence the name "Lags Mare." Lags Mare has only been a broodmare. She is passported under the Irish Piebald and Skewbald Society.

Lags Mare gave birth to a beautiful and very stout solid black filly in May 2019 (sold). She is bred to St Brendan's Cream for a 2021 foal

Photos are of her in Ireland with her 2018 filly (who we later purchased and are in the process of bringing to the US!)
